Two solo acts definitely worth seeing are Gemma Wilcox and Paul Strickland. Wilcox's show, The Honeymoon Period is Officially Over (Stage 48, Rutherford School) is a Sybil esque master class in physical theatre and shape shifting. Strickland's Ain't True and Uncle False (Stage 10, Acacia Hall) ushers in a new storytelling presence instantly worthy of a place on the top shelf.

Favourite Fringe production: The one with the 13 word title starting with Propylene Glycol also known as the dance piece with PILLOWS! A bittersweet look at love and loss, featuring opera, tales of dead relatives, and rapturous choreography. I'm almost tempted to start taking dance classes again. (Stage 1, Westbury Theatre)

Fringed And Confused left me exhilarated with the abstract and unexpected.

my husband dropped me off at the north end of the Fringe site Sunday, his eyes taking in the tents and balloons.

Two pyjama clad ladies do a great job finding comic and profound moments in The Awkward Art Of Flying (Stage 4). Ron Pearson's Mystery Wonder Show (Stage 9) is a fun, straightforward piece that integrates sleight of hand tricks into a loose sketch about a magician in New York.

Shangri La (Stage 10, Acacia Hall) is a tasty smaller morsel, a funny, poignant one woman exploration of a 14 year old girl's complex family life in small town Saskatchewan circa 1963.

"What sort of work is THIS?" my three year old asked me as he and Puma Platform Sneakers Gold Toe

It's been such fun reviewing Fringe shows this year, witnessing the magic that happens on stages all over Old Strathcona and beyond. I've so much respect for all the artists; their energy, their talent, their courage to subject their art to public scrutiny. I certainly don't have the balls (ovaries?) to attempt it. I was lucky; I didn't see a single proper stinker. There are many gems at the festival, among them Fraz vs. The Future; All in the Timing; Fugly; and The Middle of Everywhere. And both 2 for Tea and The Legend of White Woman Creek are wonderful; go, if you can get tickets. My biggest disappointment was probably the absence of Churros King Puma Platform Trainers Black from their usual spot near the media area, best moment was watching a passerby grind/dance to a busker performing an unaccompanied soprano sax version of the Axel F theme from Beverly Hills Cop. As far as shows I'd still like to see, Harold of Galactus over at the Strathcona Library; The War of 1812 (The Musical) at the Westbury Theatre; and The Honeymoon Period is Officially Over at Rutherford School are top of the list.

EDMONTON Journal reviewers look back at the highlights of another busy Fringe season, and offer their wisdom on the must see shows as Fringed and Confused heads into its final weekend.

The very best work, that's what.

Sylvia's Mistake, a cabaret folk trio. They appear in the misguided memorial, The Subordinates Present: Sylvia's Mistake. (Stage 18, Block 1912)

The Frogs (Stage 49, Campus St. Jean) is a big puff pastry of a musical, an arch outing to the underworld (Hades, not mafia) full of rousing show tunes featuring Stephen Sondheim's notoriously Puma Suede Classic All Colors

You can rely on brash British wit in Jem Rolls Attacks The Silence (Stage 13), and Bible Bill: The Gospel Musical (Stage 16) packs an odd look at politics, radio evangelism and hymns centred around the story of Alberta premier William Aberhart. is too early for most Fringe goers, but if you've got little ones in tow, chances are you'll have been up for hours already by the time Anansi and Friends! kicks off its final performance today. The title makes it sound like a variety show, and this suite of African folk tales has some of that loose charm its cast of 20 local kids take on multiple roles, play instruments, and sing a bunch of songs, all with a professionalism that belies their years. There are shows out there for three or four year olds, and the KidsFringe area always has plenty going on. But by the time you've hit school age, the possibilities really start to open up the Family Stage at PCL Studio (Stage 11) specializes in just those types of kids' productions.

Catch any of these five shows over the last weekend of the Fringe and you're in for some fine entertainment. Catch all of them and you'll be putting a dazzling exclamation mark on the 33rd edition of Edmonton's irrepressible theatre festival.

Gordon Kent

I Love You Because (Stage 32, HI Edmonton Hostel) is an off Broadway musical comedy tailor made for romantics and a bit reminiscent of the 2012 movie Silver Linings Playbook. Rat Wives (Stage 4, Academy at King Edward) is funny in a far more cutting fashion in its portrayal of a backstage blow up involving four legendary actresses of the Victorian era.

There's a formula to the one actor Fringe testimonial. A life started out happily enough grows directionless and spins downward. A series of jobs or classes are attempted, filled with cartoonish characters. Things get especially low when divorce or disease usually, cancer strikes sometimes the actor's parent or friend, sometimes the actor! But in the end, salvation via theatre! While life stories like this are potentially gripping, no one did it better this year than New York City's Peter Aguero in Daddy Issues at Walterdale Theatre. Cleverly messing with narrative and with a fantastic, no compromise ending, it's really worth seeing. Sperm Wars and, of course, This is Cancer (see above formula) will also linger within you, pun intended.

Picking plays to see on the final Fringe weekend is like choosing a good dessert as they're closing the buffet line so much choice, so little time.

Favourite moment in a Fringe play: You "otter" check out Famished! A Victorian Zombie Musical for its zany animation, in the style of Terry Gilliam's work for Monty Python. Just thinking about the cartoon, which comes toward the end of the show, makes my eyes well up in anticipation of a giggle explosion. (Stage 9, Telus Building)
