Mr Walker first envisaged the project about 12 years ago, which initially was just a sketch on a piece of paper, however in recent years the project has taken shape and when a grant was secured through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations Parental and Engagement program, the project really started to move ahead.
"There a lot of different options for kids here."
"Educationally, tourism wise the whole project has just been so beneficial.
"The high end kids can be in there doing water sampling, water chemistry, flow rates, pressure pumps, all that sort of stuff," he said.

Mr Walker said the learning resource for students was diverse.

"We've got children who can be quite disengaged in the classroom so coming out here to do the hands on work has been absolutely fantastic, it gives them an incentive to do what they need to do in the classroom, they're on task and then they get to come out and participate in the Minya Murray project."
Mr Walker said he was hoping to release yabbies and cod into the river next term when the water warms up a bit more.
School assistant principal Steve Walker said the completion of the project could be summed up into one word, "awesome".
His vision for the cafe will include having products made out of plants from around the project.
ENVISAGED: The minya Murray project was originally envisaged by Stuart High School assistant principal Steve Walker about 12 years ago.
Mr Walker said native plants will continue to be grown and planted around the project.
